    About Deborah

Deborah Leaver is a qualified relationship and couples counsellor, practising in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey (KT12 3LT), with online sessions also available.

Hello, I’m Deborah Leaver, an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and extensive experience working with couples and individuals.

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you and your partner can speak openly, feel heard and begin to understand what may be happening within your relationship. I appreciate that talking about intimate or difficult relationship issues with a professional can feel daunting, so I work at a pace that feels comfortable for you both, creating a space where you can explore your concerns openly and without fear of judgement.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to your individual circumstances and the needs of your relationship. Whether you are experiencing ongoing conflict, struggling with communication, feeling emotionally disconnected, seeking positive change, or dealing with the impact of complex family dynamics, I can help you explore what lies beneath these difficulties and identify ways forward.

I work with people from all backgrounds and recognise that relationships are influenced by our individual experiences, values and identities. This includes the impact of social, cultural and religious backgrounds, as well as working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse individuals. I also have experience working with couples where one or both partners have ADHD or are autistic, whether formally diagnosed or self-identified. This can include exploring how neurodiversity may influence communication, emotional needs, expectations and the practical challenges of everyday life together.

Our work will focus on understanding your relationship as well as the experiences of each individual within it. We may explore how your upbringing, childhood experiences, previous relationships and established ways of communicating have shaped the patterns you find yourselves in today. By developing a greater understanding of these patterns, we can begin to identify what is keeping difficulties in place and work towards healthier, more constructive ways of relating to one another.

My aim is not to take sides or tell you what your relationship should look like, but to provide a supportive and balanced space in which you can both be heard, understood and able to explore meaningful change.

As a registered member of the BACP, I follow their ethical guidelines and undertake regular supervision and professional development to ensure I provide the best possible service to my clients.

    Meet Deborah

    Background & Experience

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a management consultant, mainly within the legal sector. I have also supported clients through charities, helping those facing bereavement, domestic violence, and substance misuse. I continue to work for one of these charities, as I believe therapy should be accessible to everyone who needs it.

Alongside this, I run a busy private practice seeing both individuals and couples, in person and online. I regularly attend workshops and training to keep my practice current and effective.

I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and professional indemnity insurance, so you can feel confident and safe working with me.

    How I Can Help

I will help you both communicate more openly and calmly, so you can truly listen and understand each other without blame or conflict.

We will work together to rebuild trust and emotional closeness, helping you feel more connected and supported in your relationship.

I will gently guide you in exploring each other's needs, thoughts, and feelings, fostering a deeper understanding of your relational dynamics.

We will navigate any difficult life changes, such as loss or family pressures, providing you with care and understanding to strengthen your partnership.

I will support you in making meaningful changes to bring more balance, respect, and fulfilment to your relationship.

“I had a really positive experience working with Deborah. She was practical, thoughtful, and genuinely supportive throughout a difficult period in my life. I especially appreciated how she helped me understand human behaviour and recognise patterns in the way we think, feel, and respond to situations”

“Deborah has been a great support during a difficult time. She stayed neutral, asking questions that brought answers we didn't even know of and brought us to understand how we got to this place. Supporting each of us equally with care, professionalism and guidance. The results made me feel reassured, supported and confident and helped us both to communicate through separation in a kinder way. Thank you Deborah.”

“My husband and I came to Deborah as we were experiencing challenges in our marriage. Deborah was easy to talk to, and always had practical suggestions to our emotional struggles. She guided us to remove blame from the equation and focus on respect and understanding even when views were quite different. After 6 months we feel like a completely different relationship, based on trust, respect and a deeper understanding of each other. For that we are incredibly grateful.”
