Zahira (also known as “Zee”) offers a soft, confidential place for feelings to land, providing a warm, non judgemental space where clients can feel safe to be themselves. She is a humanistic counsellor and qualified couples therapist. with the BACP. Zahira works with each person as a whole, rather than focusing only on presenting problems. Sessions are tailored to the individual, supporting clients to feel heard, understood, and able to make sense of what is happening for them, so that meaningful and lasting change can become possible.
I am a humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, and a fully trained couples therapist. I work in a bespoke way, offering a listening ear and thoughtful support that is shaped around you. Working humanistically means meeting you where you are, respecting your inner process, and supporting you to live in a way that feels more authentic and true to yourself.
Alongside talking therapy, I can use creative and experiential methods such as stone and sand work, Russian Doll work, and Gestalt three chair work, where helpful. I also offer walk and talk therapy in local woodland settings. My therapy space is warm and welcoming, wheelchair accessible, and easy to reach by public transport, with parking available. I work in English and also speak several Indian languages, as well as some French.
Before qualifying as a psychotherapist and couples therapist, I gained over thirty years of experience working with people in a wide range of settings. This includes youth and community services, school counselling, and senior family co-ordination roles, where I developed a strong understanding of family breakdown and domestic violence.
I have also worked as part of a discharge team in an acute hospital, supporting people through complex transitions and recovery. This has given me extensive experience of working with individuals affected by trauma, abuse, and significant life stress.
Alongside my private practice, I currently volunteer with the Rape and Sexual Assault service in Guildford. I also deliver workshops for Sandhurst Counselling Service and the local community on topics such as anxiety and loneliness, and I support participants at the Oxford Trauma Conference when they become dysregulated.
I work integratively and draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including:
A safe and contained therapeutic relationship
I offer a consistent, non judgemental space where you can speak freely. Your feelings are welcomed and taken seriously, and we work at a pace that feels safe for you.
Making sense of your inner world
I support you to explore and understand your emotions, thoughts, and bodily responses. This can reduce confusion and shame, and help you develop greater self compassion and clarity.
Supporting emotional regulation
I work somatically, using grounding, pacing, and attunement to help you regulate your nervous system. Together, we develop tools you can use between sessions to manage overwhelm and build resilience.
Understanding relationship patterns
We look at patterns in your relationships, both in your life and within the therapy space. This can help identify attachment patterns that may be getting in the way of healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Building agency and choice
I aim to empower you to reconnect with your sense of agency, helping you set boundaries, make choices, and respond in ways that feel meaningful to you. This supports you to move towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
