Ellen Jameson

Cobham Practice

Couple Therapy Cobham

“Hello! My name is Ellen, and I’m a fully qualified and experienced relationship therapist for individuals and couples. My approach to therapy is flexible which ensures I try and meet the unique needs of those who come to see me. I work in a confidential and sensitive way, in an environment that is open, warm, relaxed and supportive. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship Therapy and I’m a Registered Member of BACP, which means I adhere to their ethical guidelines.

There are a variety of reasons why people choose to come to couple therapy. Some are struggling to manage conflict, others have grown apart and wish to rekindle their connection. Others wish to work through an affair or gain clarity about whether to continue in the relationship. Some, have decided to separate and are seeking support in doing so respectfully, to name just a few. I will work with you to realise your aspirations for your individual relationship.

Equally, there are many issues for which people seek support as individuals. I have worked extensively with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, healing from trauma, and many other problems. People who have consulted with me in the past, often tell me that they feel at ease with me, and that they value the different understandings they gained from counselling. These understandings they used to create change in their lives and relationships.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship Therapy (University of Hull)
  • Diploma in Narrative Therapy (Distinction, Open College)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Well-Being (Merit, Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust)
  • Certificate of Qualification as Relate Counsellor (Relate Institute)

Background/experience

I am originally from Seattle, Washington, USA and have lived in London and Surrey for over 40 years. Prior to becoming a Counsellor, I worked in the City where I gained extensive knowledge and experience of relationships and the pressures and stresses of working life. I was a Counsellor for Relate from 2008-12 and have been in private practice since 2013. I am the mother of adult twins.

How I can help you

  • I will listen to your stories and hopes with respect and compassion, without judgement and with your unique aspirations in mind. I will not only sit in silence as a sounding board. Instead, I take an active role in offering observations, insights, and practical tools to help you create the change you desire.
  • I will work with you and at your pace. We will talk about what is important for you to talk about, rather than me setting the agenda.
  • We will take a collaborative approach, ensuring that our work together is on track for what you wish to achieve. Often, the focus of the work changes and evolves over the course of counselling and I will check with you that things are moving in directions that you’re finding useful and helpful.
  • I always try to be as flexible as possible to cater for your schedules and lifestyles. This may involve offering sessions at times that are convenient for you or adjusting the frequency of our meetings as you progress through counselling. I will accommodate your individual requirements for the counselling process based on what is helpful for you.
  • I do not conceive that the problems people face are the result of personal failings or deficits. Rather, I see them as being created by often complex factors outside of ourselves that we are attempting to navigate.

Andrew Spencer

Guildford Practice

Marriage Counselling Guildford

Hello, my name is Andy Spencer and I’m a fully qualified and experienced Relationship Therapist for couples and indviduals. I’m also a Supervisor for other Couple Counsellors and an accredited member of the ‘National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists’ (NCIP).

Many of us choose to share the whole, or a significant part of our lives, with another person. Therefore, in order to find happiness and fulfilment, it’s  important to foster healthy relationships. In my view, a healthy relationship is where both parties are open, honest and feel safe enough to share their authentic needs with one another. However, this sadly isn’t always the case. Sometimes we find it difficult to speak to our partner, or the process gets interrupted and our relationship becomes turbulent, painful and an uphill struggle.

Sometimes external factors put pressure on a relationship. Problems with money, family or children, chronic illness or long working hours can all have a negative impact on a relationship. This, alongside not necessarily understanding each other’s relational needs fully, or how to meet them, can make matters worse. In addition to this, ineffective communication and/or dealing with differences in a defensive or hurtful manner can be a contributing factor.

My approach to couple therapy

I provide a safe, supportive and confidential space for our relationship counselling sessions. This will hopefully enable you to feel comfortable enought to open up and talk through and address your concerns, along with  what you hope to achieve from our sessions. My approach to couple therapy is proactive. Which means I will support you by using a variety of tools (if appropriate) to help enhance your own problem-solving skills. Through doing this, you will be able explore what went wrong between you and the role you both played in the relationship reaching this point. Together, we will help you find a way through, in whichever way you choose.

Sometimes couples decide that the best option for them is to end the relationship. Therefore, I can support one or both of you through this difficult process, so are are able to separate less painfully, especially if children are involved.

I offfer Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Person Centred Counselling in my practice.

Ethical Standards

As an accredited member of the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists (NCIP). I adhere to their ethical guidelines and have ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development). This ensures the service I provide to my clients the best possible.

Background/experience

I have experience in working with bereavement and life limiting illness at the ‘Sam Beare and Woking Hospices’. I still provide therapy to members of “Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide” (SOBS). This is for issues such as loss, anxiety and depression.

I’ve also worked with male and female survivors of rape and sexual abuse at Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) in Guildford.  Along with gaiing  experience supporting vicitims of trauma and its impact when dealing with intense and overwhelming emotions.  I also provided short term therapy for anxiety and depression for the NHS.

I maintain continuous on-going training and work within the ethical boundaries of the NCIP. I’m DBS checked and fully insured.

I live with my partner and have 4 grown up step children.

How I can help you

  • Couples I have seen in the past have told me that they found me warm, approachable and understanding.
  • I provide a safe, confidential and uninterrupted space where you can talk about the challenges you are facing in your relationship. I will listen to both of your perspecitves and I will not judge or take sides. Relationships  can be difficult and becasue we are human, we don’t always behave in the most helpful way.
  • My aim is help you communicate your thoughts, feelings and needs to each other in a calm and non-hurtful way. This will hopefully enable a greater understanding of eachother. I will encourage you both to really listen to each and value the others perspective, even if you don’t necessarily agree with it.  I will explain the tools available to help you during therapy, and you can choose which ones you think work best for you.
  • You will be asked what you hope to achieve out of the couple therapy, if you know. If you don’t, that’s okay, I will help you find clarity and facilitate you working towards that goal. We will look for common ground and learn how to respect each other’s differences and then build upon that.
  • Together, we will explore any external infleunces that might be negatively impacting your relationship and explore how we might be able to lessen them.

Jessica Grante

Tadworth Practice

Couple Therapy Tadworth (Kingswood)

Hello! My name is Jessica and I’m a fully qualified and experienced individual and couple counsellor.  I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). So therefore, uphold their ethical guidelines, maintaining ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development). This ensures I consistently provide my clients with a high-quality service.

My main area of expertise is relational therapy. Which means, I look holistically at the relationship with ‘self’ such as role/identity, attachment style, self-esteem and so on. Alongside the systemic relationship with significant others, including both partners; parents; children and even relationships at work.

Through me providing a safe, confidential space and non-judgmental space, I will help you find ways of resolving any current conflict along with any historic issues within your relationship. I will endeavour to help you feel relaxed enough to explore the problems you are facing that is productive and effective for you both.

I understand that there is no such thing as a ‘one size fits all approach’ which can be formulaically applied to remedy every couple’s unique situation. Therefore, I pride myself on being a truly reflective practitioner, enabling you the autonomy over the goals, pace, possible tasks and interventions. I will invite you to take the lead in order to achieve the goals/aims you have set yourselves. Of course, I will be there to safely guide you, drawing upon my expertise and experience to gentle challenge and direct you where appropriate.

Where there may be impasse (brick-wall) or uncertainty as to which is the optimal direction for all, I will help you find clarity by providing a variety of tools and techniques to aide you both in getting there safely.

My approach to couple therapy

The cornerstone of couple’s therapy is to help you communicate more effectively. So therefore, I will help you actively listen to each other so you feel truly heard by the other. Together, we will explore your individual needs along with helping you express your needs within the relationship.  and express your needs, so as to improve the chances of them being successfully met, imparting a sense of self value and fulfilment.

Couples work inevitably leads to the individuals incidentally having a better understanding of themselves, as well as of each other. I will support you to be able to better understand how effective communication, including conflict resolution, can be relayed and how it might land with the recipient. Studies show that formative life experiences can often be the cause of miscommunication in a relationship, e.g. illness or bereavement in childhood, alongside the subjective interpretation of each other’s language or behaviours. Are you even consciously aware what you and your partner’s ‘love language(s)’ are?  The gradual exploration of these areas can lead to a greater understanding, which in turn, will reduce any rumination; hurt, resentment; resignation or, indeed, anger that may have latently been brewing. Let me ride that explosion with you both!

My methodology is Integrative following the Petrushka Clarkson relational model theory and I may draw down on multiple theories at any one time, for example person-centred; psychodynamic; transactional etc. I am insured and always uphold my governing body’s BACP ethical guidelines, maintain ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development) to ensure the service I provide to my clients is consistently of the highest quality.

Therefore, making the transition to becoming a Therapist was a natural step.

Six years ago, I trained as a Bereavement Counsellor with ‘Cruse Bereavement Care’. This enabled me exposure to a wide range of issues and a diverse range of cultures, ages, sexuality and relationship situations.  I’ve also volunteered as a pro-bono counsellor at Sutton Women’s Centre, which is a hub for survivors of domestic abuse.

Katrina Voysey

Coulsdon Practice

Couple Counselling Coulsdon

Hello, my name is Katrina and ‘m a fully qualified Psychotherapist and Couples Counsellor based at Relationship Counselling Coulsdon. I have over 30 years of experience and I’m a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I’m dedicated to helping couples build stronger, healthier relationships.

I provide a warm, welcoming, and safe space where you can openly express, explore, and understand whatever is troubling you. Together, we will work towards fostering a better relationship with yourself and your partner.

The love and companionship of a partner can bring out the best in us, offering a nurturing, supportive, and enlivening connection. However, relationships can sometimes face challenges such as arguments, affairs, mistrust, growing apart, control issues, boredom, sexual concerns, and external pressures. Big decisions, like whether and when to have a child, can also create stress.

My approach to couple therapy

During our sessions, we will objectively examine the dynamics between you, ensuring both of you feel heard and respected. I will guide you in discovering and experimenting with better ways to communicate your innermost thoughts and feelings, helping you grow in ways you might not have imagined.

We will explore how you express love and care for each other and how these gestures are received. I will support you in creating the conditions for intimacy and passion to flourish once again. It’s essential to feel like a team in your relationship rather than tackling issues alone. So I will help you build the awareness and skills to achieve that unity.

If an affair or betrayal has occurred, I provide a neutral, compassionate space where you can discuss what happened. This will enable you to process your emotions and come to a clearer understanding of your relationship’s current state and future possibilities. Whether you decide to stay together or part ways, I am here to support your journey.

Good relationships require attention and time, which is often freely given during the “falling-in-love” phase. Couples counselling can help you rediscover the motivation to invest that loving attention and time back into your relationship. Therefore, allowing it to thrive and flourish long after our sessions have ended.

I look forward to supporting you on your path to a more fulfilling and loving relationship.

I have always been deeply passionate about making connections and understanding the intricacies of human behavior. My journey into this field began with a career in marketing and consumer insight, where I delved into the fascinating dynamics of the relationships people form with brands. Over the years, I managed, designed, and interpreted research, leading a team dedicated to uncovering these insights. This experience honed my skills in understanding what drives people and how they relate to the world around them.

After a period of full-time work in this sector, I transitioned to freelancing as a market research consultant. During this time, I pursued my love for creative expression through writing fiction and poetry. This phase of my life opened my eyes to the profound intersections between creativity, self-knowledge, and personal growth. I immersed myself in various creative forms such as writing, dance, movement, music, voice, drama, imagination, and art.

My own personal journey in therapy began around this time, sparking a deep interest in therapeutic practices. I initially trained in using the arts as a therapeutic tool and later pursued training in relational and embodied psychotherapy. This comprehensive training allowed me to support individuals in a more holistic and integrated manner.

With a solid foundation in individual therapy, I expanded my practice to include working with couples and adults in various relationships. I have also been dedicated to sharing my knowledge and skills through workshops and further training. My work has reached diverse groups, including the general public, young homeless people, and fellow counselors seeking professional development.

In my therapeutic practice, I draw upon my extensive background in research, creativity, and personal growth to foster a supportive and transformative environment for my clients. Whether through individual sessions or group workshops, I am committed to facilitating meaningful connections and personal development for all those I work with.

Sian Jones

Online Marriage Counselling

Hello, my name is Sian Jones, and I’m a highly experienced Relationship Counsellor and founder of ‘Relationship Counselling Surrey’. I have a Psychology (BSC) hons and a proven track record of successfully helping tens of hundreds of couples achieve their goals. In addition to this, I hold diplomas in both ‘Psychotherapy’ and ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT), which assist me in addressing negative thought patterns when working with couples.

It was over 15 years ago, that I embarked on my career in relationship counselling, by establishing our parent company ‘Relationship Counselling Kent’. This thriving couple counselling business, prompted me to expand the availability of relationship counselling to couples to another county. Resulting in the creation of the now ‘Relationship Counselling Surrey’.

When relationships face difficulties, emotions run high, making it challenging to see beyond the immediate issues. Consequently, identifying individual contributions to the problems becomes difficult, often leading to a tendency to blame one’s partner. I take a logical, step-by-step approach to couple therapy. By asking relevant questions, I will encourage you both to work through the challenges together. This allows you to openly express what is not working and why, while affording your partner the opportunity to genuinely listen and understand your perspective.

The goal  is not necessarily to agree or even like each other’s viewpoints but to reach an understanding. In my experience, by achieving such understanding goes a long way in removing any hurt, resentment or anger that might have built up over time. If you would like to book to see me for online relationship therapy.

Qualifications

BSC (Hons) Psychology
Certificate in Couple and Relationship Therapy
Diploma in Psychotherapy
PGDip in ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT/REBT)

Background/experience

Outside of my therapeutic experience, my background is within the corporate world of ‘Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd’ where I worked for many years in a variety of management roles. This might appear far removed from what I do now. However, I firmly believe the training, structure and discipline I gained during this time has contributed greatly in my becoming a successful Relationship Therapist. I also feel that my exposure in this type of environment has enabled me to view a ‘wider’ world and not just that of a therapy room. I took the decision to change direction and pursue a career in counselling. Therefore, over a 10-year period, whilst working full time, I undertook a degree in Psychology in order to train to become a psychotherapist, couple counsellor and a CBT Therapist.

How I can help you

  • I understand that it might feel quite daunting taking the first step into couples’ therapy. However, I have helped tens of hundreds of couples achieve their goals and most tell me they wish they had sought couple therapy months, if not years before.
  • Couples frequently praise my exceptional ability to quickly create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. I understand that when individuals feel at ease, they find it easier to open up and communicate effectively.
  • We will work together for your specific goal. Whether you would like help to make your relationship work better than it currently is. Or, if you would like help in separating more amicably.
  • I will not sit there silently waiting for you to speak. Instead, I will take an active part in the conversation and in the process of recovery and change.
  • My work encompasses diverse backgrounds, cultures, same-gender relationships, families and friendships. I provide a non-judgemental, secure and confidential environment where we can navigate your relationship challenges together.

Diana Brotherton

Farnham Practice

Couple Counselling Farnham

Hello, my name is Diana Brotherton and I’m a fully qulaified and experienced Relationship Therapist for couples and individuals. I’m also a supervisor for other couple counsellors and an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

I offer a  a number of different types of therapy, including DIT (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy), which is a program for young adults experiencing difficulties in forming/keeping nurturing relationships with others.

Sometimes, in long term romantic relationships, the ‘raw’ and exciting love you experienced in the beginning, can shift from its original form. The shapes that love takes are intricate, delicate and unique. That’s because relationships have complex structures, much like ice crystals forming in snow, they are fuelled by our own (and the other’s) feelings, imagination and hopes.

Perhaps you are facing an impasse when trying to navigate through relationships, caught in a web of inter-relationships with others. For example, you might feel trapped in your own personal journey by others’ hopes or aspirations. Or maybe you feel in ‘competition’ within family or friendship groups, where you try to ‘fit in’  according to prescribed rules or norms. Or perhaps internal factors such as illness or psychological trauma is putting pressure on your relationship leading to emotional dysregulation.

One of my personal interests is looking at how wellbeing affects the quality of relationships with others. For example, achieving emotional regulation through making small, but meaningful changes in our lifestyles, can lead to better weellbeing. This has a positive knock-on effect on our relationships with others.

My approach to couple therapy

I provide a safe, non-judgmental space, so you will feel comfortable enough to explore your inner voices. Which will hopefully lead to you both feeling heard and understaood, perhaps re-discovering your co-aspirations.

I iwll help you explore your relationship challenges through deep reflection and insightfulness, which will hopefully to both you and your partner, leading a happeir more fulfillling life

My approach to couple therapy is warm engaging and proactive. Which means I won’t just sit their nodding, Instead I will take an active role by using a variety of tools, where appropriate, to help you  achieve the goal you have set yourself

I work in an integrative way, which means  and my practice is also influenced by humanistic/existential thinking, psychoanalytic concepts and continental philosophy.

Ethical Standards

As an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) I adhere to their ethical guidelines and have ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development). This ensures the service I provide to my clients the best possible.

Perhaps you are seeking couples counselling because communication has broken down in your relationship, leaving you feeling hurt, resentful and/or unheard. Or maybe you are going through a period of transition and change, or an infidelity has come to light which feels impossible to overcome without professional support. For some couples, personality differences can lead to conflict and disappointment. Couples also seek relationship therapy for help in separating more amicably, or they are looking for clarity in the direction they would like their relationship to take.

I fully appreciate that taking the first step into couple therapy might feel daunting. Because you might be opening up to a stranger for the very first time, which isn’t always easy. However, rest assured, I provide a warm, empathetic environment for us to work together, at your chosen pace. Hopefully, this will enable you to feel comfortable enough to explore the challenges you are currently facing and work towards the goals you have set yourself and sustainable solutions.

When we embark on a relationship, it is right for us at that period of time and although we take care to align our values and interests, people can and do change. It is highly unlikely to remain unchanged by some of the challenge’s life throws at us.

I also have a deep understanding of how addictions, neurodiversity and mental health issues can impact relationships.

My approach to couple therapy

I prioritise a collaborative working relationship, which means we will define common goals and work together in order to achieve them. I don’t take a ‘one size fits all’ approach to couple therapy. Instead, my sessions are personalised and structured for your individual needs as well as the needs as a couple.

Rose Stephen

Weybridge Practice

Couple Counselling Weybridge

Hello. My name is Rose Stephen and I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I’m highly experienced in working couples and individuals. I have a‘Higher Level Diploma in Couples Counselling and I’m an accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

My area of expertise is relationship therapy. Over the years, I have helped hundreds of couples and individuals find ways of resolving their relationship issues. I provide a safe, confidential space and will endeavour to help you feel relaxed enough to explore the problems you are facing in the most helpful ways.

I fully understand that the ‘one size fits all approach’ does NOT suit every couple’s unique situation. Therefore, I will always take this into account during our sessions. This means I will ask you both to take the lead to try and achieve the goal you have set for yourselves. However, if you are still determining which direction you would like the relationship to take, I will help you find clarity by providing various tools and techniques to help you get there.

The primary goal of couple therapy sessions is to assist both partners in communicating more effectively. By doing so, you will gain a better understanding of yourselves and each other. I will support you in understanding how communication can be conveyed and received by both individuals. Research has shown that life experiences can often cause miscommunication in relationships and subjective interpretations of each other’s language or behaviour. Therefore, exploring these areas can lead to greater understanding, which, in turn, can reduce any hurt, resentment, or anger that may have developed over time.

As a psychotherapist, I use different approaches when working with clients, depending on their situation and needs. This might include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, Trauma Focus Therapy, humanistic therapy and solution-focused therapy. I may also use one or a combination of these approaches to help clients achieve their goals.

I always work within the ethical boundaries of the BACP and ensure that I maintain my continuous ongoing training requirements. Additionally, I am fully insured, and DBS has been checked for your peace of mind.

 How I can help you

  • Couples who have seen me previously said that I am warm, understanding and easy to talk to.
